Apprehension Revived in London

There is no doubt that the market set-back, which 1 contributed to the disappointing results of the Australian loan, whs based on a revival of apprehensions over the European situation.
Many are not impressed by the slow progress of the negotiations between Britain and Russia. Others regret that they were ever initiated.
Many high-placed officials maintain that Russia is so backward in military matters 'and her policy is so tortuous that she is not likely to be of any real assistance to Western Powers. There is a similar division of opinion regarding Viscount Halifax’s speech.
The “Financial News” bluntly declares that the market disliked its whifT of appeasement. Others contend that a German-British rapprochement must bo in the forefront of British policy.
