Some May Settle For Good, Says Member

[Special to “Northern Advocate”'] RUSSELL. This Day.

That Northland exceeded ail expectations both in scenery and farmland interest was the opinion of all members of the Westland farmers’ touring party, who spent the week-end in Russell.

“We did not expect to see such wonderful country, and the trip has been a great education,” said one, speaking for all the farming section of the party. “We had heard of your waste gumlands, and wo expected to sec miles and miles of valueless and barren countryside. Instead, wo have seen what we think to be some of the best country in New Zealand. “I should-not be surprised if some of our party are not already, thinking of coming to your wonderful Northland to settle for good in the near future."

Whangarei a “Great Town.”

“Whangarci is a great town,” said another, “and the surrounding dairy and grazing country looks good to

All seemed unanimous in the opinion that the tour was well organised and that it was one of the most interesting ever run from the West Coast of the South Island. “We did not expect so much beauty, so much attractive farming land and so much prosperity” explained one visitor “and that is why the tour is doubly attractive to us.” “We are always reading in the papers about the wonderful hospitality of the West Coasters" remarked his friend, “but in* the future the West Coast can take second place as far as lam concerned. You people of Northland have shown a friendliness never experienced by us anywhere before." Sightseeing in Bay, Sunday morning in Russell was spent in viewing all spots of historic interest. and in the afternoon members of the party were conveyed, in launches to Paihia, Waitangi and Ctehei Bay Beep Sea Fishing Lodge on Urapukapuka Island.

“I’ll hot you a fiver” said the old engine driver. “I’ve caught that dread plague, influenza: It's painful to suffer, and though an old ‘buffer’, ‘lve no wish to come to an end. sir. It, makes my hair bristle as I hear my duties’ whistle, I must look for a safeguard’ that's sure. And I’ll give you some ‘points,’ as I case my old joints, * Woods' Great Peppermint Cure.” 30
