Free Labour For Kaikohe Methodist Church
[Special to “Northern Advocate ”]
KAIKOHE, This Day
Erection by voluntary labour of the Methodist Church in Kaikohe is expected to be completed in the near future.
Formerly the old Okaihau West Church, the building was transferred in sections from Okaihau to its present site on the old Okaihau road, close to the Kaikohe Public School. The church is 53 years old, but it is still in excellent condition, as only heart of kauri was used in its original construction, and none of the former timber requires replacing. Several alterations in the design of the building are to bo made, with the result that the church will not resemble the Okaihau structure. It is intended to make additions to the rear of the building, and the porch,
which was formerly on the front, is to bo placed on one of the side wallsj and triple windows will fill the cavity where the door was originally. No labour has been-engaged for the erection of the building, which was commenced in March by an energetic committee, and it is hoped to have the building finished within the next few months.
