Ladies’ Gardening Club

The fortnightly meeting of the Ladies’ Gardening Club was held on May 29 at the Masonic Hall. Mrs Webber presided over a large attendance of members.

The speaker for the afternoon was Mrs A. Pickmere, who gave a most interesting and instructive address on “Flowers All the Year Round." Mrs Pickmere also spoke on the subject of the proposed cutting and marketing of kauri trees.

The meeting unanimously approved a motion proposed by the speaker, and seconded by Mrs Harmon Smith, “that the club give their fullest support to the Northland Counties’ Association in their effort to save the kauri trees and preserve one of the country’s greatest assets for the benefit of the people of New Zealand.”

Afternoon tea was served, the hostesses being Mesdames Reed, Reynolds, H. Smith, Steventon. R. Tudehope and Miss Davison.
