Whangarei Swimming Trophies Presented

At the completion of a record season, the Whangarei Amateur Swimming Club held its prize-giving in the Parochial Hall, when presentations were made by the deputy-mayor, Mr J. W. Parkin. There were 82 prizes presented—probably a record for any amateur sport in Whangarei. Main trophies were .awarded as follows.— Championships, Men’s 100 yards (Dempster Cup): C. Bevington. Men’s 50 yards (Club trophy): C. Bevington. Men’s 220 yards (Schon Cup): D. Fairley. Boys’ Intermediate 100 yards (Club trophy); L. Mortimore. Boys’ Junior 50 yards (Snow Cup): P. L. Newberry. Special Awards, Jffnior Girls’ Club night points (Wilkinson Cup): Miss R. Beale. Intermediate Girls’ 66 2-3 yards ("Kelly Cup): Miss M. Ward. Intermediate Boys’ 66 2-3 yards (Kelly Cup): R. Muir. Intermediate Girls’ 50 yards (Bird and Cleary Cup): Miss D. Kennett. Junior Boys’ 66 2-3 yards (W. Given’s Medal): R. Cavanagh. Most consistent swimmer for season (Rishworth Cup); Master T. Tupp. Annual competition, 10 men relay between Whangarei and Mount Eden 1 (Gillet Rose Bowl main trophy): Whangarei beat Mount Eden’s team, the strongest in Auckland. It was stated that the club is already making preparations for next season when good swimming is promised.
