Unique Centennial Gathering in Whangarei
One of the most representative gatherings of men interested in Centennial matters ever to assemble in Northland was present at the Commercial Hotel on Saturday night, as the guests of Sir Ernest Davis, Mayor of Auckland, and chairman of the Auckland Provincial Centennial Committee.
In addition to Sir Ernest, the company included: Mr. I. J. Goldstine, Mayor of One Tree Hill; Mr. H. J. Anderson, Mayor of Mt. Albert; Mr. Ely. president of the Auckland Chamber of Commerce; Mr. J. W. Heenan, Under-Secrctary of Internal Affairs; Mr. B. C. Ashwin. Secretary of the Treasury; Mr. A. W. Mulligan, General Secretary to the Centennial branch of the Department of Internal Affairs; and Mr. W. S. Wauchop, National Director of Centennial Pageantry.
Others present were Mr. J. A. S. MncKay. chairman of the Whangarei County Council; Mr, W. Jones, Mayor of Whangarei; Mr. R. Gibson, Mayor of Dargaville; and Mr. IT. T. Atkinson, chairman of the Bay of Islands County Council, all members of the provincial committee.
