Te Puhi
The combined April and May meeting, and also the fifth birthday party of the Te Puhi Women’s Institute was held last week. Mrs Tracey presi-
ded over a good attendance of members and welcomed a number of visitors from surrounding districts. The meeting opened with the reading of the creed and the singing of the Institute song by members. Lunch was served by members. The afternoon was spent in singing, competitions and games. “Something for nothing” was won by Mrs W. Dawson, with Mrs Foster second. The competitions for the two months were: Senior —sewing, tray cloth and serviette, Mrs A. White and Mrs A. Edwards 1, Mrs E. Buckingham 2; guest towel, Mrs A. Edwards 1, Mrs B. White 2; cooking, date loaf, Mrs A. Tracey 1, Mrs W. Dawson and Mrs E. Buckingham 2; collection of fruit. Miss R. Panther 1, Mrs A. White 2; kumara, Mrs D. Tracey 1, Mrs W. Dawson 2; Junior —Sewing, guest towel, Miss N. Brockbank 1; tray cloth and serviette, Miss N. Brockbank 1; cocking, shortbread, Miss N. Brockbank 1; date scones, Miss N. Brockbank 1; flowers, gent’s buttonhole, Miss N. Brockbank 1; ladies’ spray, Miss N. Brockbank 1.
When afternoon tea had been served, Mrs Lupton lit the .five candles on the birthday cake, made and iced by the president. Mrs Sanders, having blown the candles out, the cake was cut by Mrs Paton, bringing an enjoyable meeting to a close. # • • •
