Great Enthusiasm In Hokianga County

Great enthusiasm for the Centennial prevails throughout Hokianga. This is the report of Mr K. Hayr, Northland Centennial organiser, who has just completed a tour of the area. “Hokianga wants to take part,”' he said today. Local committees have been set ,up in all centres except Waimamaku and Rawene, which have yet to be visited. Each committee has appointed its representatives to the Hokianga Subzone 3 Cehtennial organisation, which will meet this month. Sub-zone A 3 will decide ways and means, of meeting Hokianga’s quota towards the Zone A funds, and will organise local celebrations, as well as ensuring that the county secures a prominent place in the Northland film. It is probable that Hokianga will secure two Northland Centennial fixtures, in the form of a picnic race meeting at Rawene and athletic sports at Opononi, Officers Appointed,

At Horeke Mr W. Austin has been appointed chairman of the local committee. The settler's’ association at Umawera is to be approached by Mr O. O. Perry regarding Centennial participation, while at Broadwood the A. and P. Society is taking control of affairs. Mr H, Searle is chairman of the Motukaraka local committee, with Mr K. Pricker as secretary. At Kohukohu, where Mr A. A. Potter is chairman of the local committee, every organisation in the district is to be represented, including the town board, the chamber of commerce, women’s organisations, and the Native race. Mr W. H. White is 'chairman of the Taheke committee, with Mrs Maxwell as secretary. The chairman and Mrs Johnson have already been appointed as delegates to the sub-zone meeting.
