The Publicity Committee Holds First Meeting
THE CENTNENIAL
Publicity matters in connection with the Centennial in Whangarei are to be bandied by the publicity sub-com-mittee of the Sub-zone A 5 organisation The nucleus of this committee, which was set up yesterday afternoon with power to add, consists of Messrs. L. G. Michaels, F. J. Howie and C. R. Cockfield.
Preliminary arrangements for the participation of young people in Whangarei’s Centennial celebrations were set in train last night with the ap-j pointment of a children’s sub-rcom-mittee. The committee, with power to add, was constituted as follows: Father
Murphy, and Messrs. C. V. Stringer, G. S. B. Morrison and A. F. Larkin. Also present were the Northland Zone A chairman, Mr. W. Jones, the secre- j tary, Mr. L. O. Hall, and the organiser, Mr. K. Hayr. Teachers’ Position Mr. Hayr was delegated to approach the district branch of the Educational Institute with a view to several representatives from this body being appointed to the committee. “It would hardly be fair to dictate to the teachers,” remarked Mr. Stringer. No plans have yet been formulated as to the form the children’s celebrations will take, but it was felt that something more than the ordinary sports gathering should take place. “We want something that will leave an impression on the children’s mind,” said Mr. Hayr, who suggested a combined pageant in which each school in the district would be responsible for a certain section, the whole culminating in a big gathering at Kensington Park.
