Harbour Boards’ Union Makes Levy

As a result of additional expenditure brought about by disputes, meetings of assessors and Arbitration Court proceedings, etc., the New Zealand Harbour Boards’ Industrial Union of employers has found it neces'sary to make ,a levy on contributors. Writing to the Whangarei Harbour Board yesterday the union explained that its subscription income—£27s — insufficient to meet expenditure. To Finance Legal Proceedings.

The union was therefore obliged to enforce its right to make a levy for this year so that it could finance the proceedings which had to be taken to prptect the interests of boards. The levy on the Whangarei Harbour Board for the year ending September 30, 1939, would be £l2 12/-. Mr J. A. Finlayson, chairman of the board, explained that the union’s purpose was to watch legal interests of the contributing harbour boards. The board decided to pay the specified amount.
