Lower Imports, Greater Exports At Local Port

Although imports decreased considerably, more than compensatory increases in exports were recorded by the Whangarei Harbour Board in February, as compared with February of last year.

Imports in February, 1938, totalled 6874 tons, the total for February this year being. 5079 tons.

Exports increased by 7152 tons to 13,388 tons.

Sixty-eight vessels entered and cleared port in February this year, the total tonnage being 12,989 tons. Last February, 54 vessels with a total tonnage of 13,341, entered and cleared port. Manures imported increased from 133 tons to 309 tons. Chief item of export was cement, of which 12,498 tons were exported in February this year, compared with 6089 tons in 1838. Butter decreased from 469 to 425 tons, while lime increased from 192 to 257 tons.
