Fine Quality At Waipu Calf Sale

The North Auckland. Farmers’ Coop., Limited, reports a large yarding at its special calf sale at Waipu yesterday. The quality of grown cattle was not up to the usual standard, but the calves were in beautiful condition and were a credit to the district. Store cattle were very hard to quit, and only about half of them sold under the hammer. Calves met with fair competition throughout, and every calf was sold. Three-year Shorthorn steers made £6 15/-; others, £6 to £6 10/-; two-year steers, £3 10/- to £4 5/-; fresh conditioned cows, £4 to £4 2/6; two-year Shorthorn heifers, £3 10/- to £4 2/6; 18-month Shorthorn heifers, £2 5/- to £3; two-year Jersey heifers, £4 10/to £5 1/-; smaller, £3 15/- to £4 2/6; cows and calves, £3 10/- to £4; Jersey heifer calves, best quality, £2 10/- to £3 1/-; others, 38/- to £2 9/-; Shorthorn heifer calves, 30/- to £2 8/-; smaller, 25/- to 29/-; best steer calves, Shorthorn, £2 10/- to £2 13/-; medium, £2 to £2 9/-;. smaller, 31/to 39/-.

Buckland Special Yarding

.Messrs Alfred Buckland and Sons, in conjunction with the N.Z. Mercantile Agency Company, Limited, held a special cattle sale at Kirikopuni yesterday, when there was a good yarding of boner and store cattle. Owing, no doubt, to the shortage of pastures consequent on continued dry weather, there was little demand for grown stock, but boners met with fair competition. Heavy boners, £3 to £3 14/-; lighter, £2 5/- to £2 19/-; Jersey heifers, r.w.b., £3 10/- to £3 18/-;; cows and calves, £2 5/- to £3 7/6; Shorthorn steer calves, £2 2/6; potter bulls, heavy, £6 10/- to £7 5/-; lighter, £4 2/6 to £5 7/6; Southdown rams, i|gns. to Ugns.

Excellent Competition At Sydney Wool Sales

SYDNEY, February 27. , At today’s wool sales, all the best features of last week were well sustained, with excellent competition from the Continent and Yorkshire. There was a strong demand for comebacks and crossbreds, but for wools carrying dust and burr, prices were slightly irregular. Greasy merino made 21£d per lb, A total of 11,427 bales was offered, and 10,860 bales sold, 1120 privately. The average price of wool last week was £l3 13/1 a bale and 11.3 d per lb.

Young Birds Race From Mercer

A good number of birds took part in the Whangarei Homing Pigeon Club’s race from Mercer. The race was confined to young birds, and with good flying conditions, they were able to register a high velocity. Results .were: H. Parkin’s Lawn Derby, 1235.7 yards per minute, 1; D. Millington’s Smoke Screen, 1235.1 yards, 2; E. Gilbey’s Spitfire, 1223 yards, 3; A. (Stanton’s Flannel Foot, 1218 yards, 4; D. Wilson’s Sunset, 1212 yards, 5; A. Balfour’s King Oolah, 1132 yards, 6. Two races will be flown nexjc week by this club, a flock race from Wellsford and an interval one from Auckland, the latter race carrying with it the Reed trophy.
