’Change Lifeless
[Special to “Northern Advocate ”] AUCKLAND. Tin’s Day. The tone of the market was lifeless, and business came almost to a halt on the Auckland Stock Exchange this morning. The only sale recorded at the call was in Bank of New Zealands. which showed a further drop of 3d. Generally the banking section was steady, although offers for Nationals were raised a shade to £2 3/3, and sellers withdrew. Insurances were virtually unchanged. A number of local industrials were weaker, particularly Auckland Gas, which had a market between 16/6 and 18/. New Zealand Breweries had unsupported sellers at £1 19/3, and M. K. manufacturers between 5/9 and 6/9. There was a firming trend in Australian industrials, Colonial Sugars, G. j. Coles and Electrolytic Zinc prefs. all being quoted a little higher. Broken Hill Pty., with buyers at £2 17/9 and sellers 9d. higher, and British Tobaccos, from £2 9/6 to £2 10/3, both came closer to business. In the Government section the only noteworthy change was a reduction In the reserves of 1946-49 4 per cent, stocks, sellers moving down to £99 10/, while buyers were steady 10/ lower. ..
