County Chairman’s Protest

Asked to comment on the press report of statements made by the Hon. ' R. Semple, Minister of Public Works, to a deputation which waited on him m v connection with Mcßreeh’s Road bn Friday evening, the chairman of the WHanghrei County Council, Mr J. A. r: S. Mac Kay, said this morning; • “I am unwilling to believe that any -Minister of the Crown should be so ■unmindful of the responsibility of his position as to make, without investigation, Such statements as were attributed to Mr Semple in Saturday evening’s ‘Advocate,’ and would much prefer to think that the Minister had been misreported. If, however, the press report should prove to be correct, I can only describe the comments as being unfair, unwarranted, undignified arid untrue.”
