Anti-French Riots In Syria
(Independent Cable Service). JERUSALEM, February 20. French troops throughout Syria are ready for action .after the resignation of the'Syrian Government as a protest against a French promulgated law allowing religious missions. There were riots and anti-French demonstrations during the week-end, In which five deaths were reported. The underlying cause of the trouble is France’s refusal to release Syria from the mandate, which is due to expire on January 1, 1940, but which has now been extended indefinitely in view of Italian aspiration and propaganda.
