£lsßß in Bets Yields “Bookie” £1470 Profit
\Per Press Association. copyright.! DUNEDIN, This Day. Evidence which showed that during Christmas week a bookmaking firm accepted bets totalling £ISBB for a total profit of £1470 was given in the Police Court this morning. “This is one of the biggest firms operating in the South Island,” commented Chief-Detective Holmes on the activities of a bookmaking business conducted by Robert David Donaldson, aged 31, who admitted the charge of bookmaking. Also charged with Donaldson were Ferguson Nicoli, John Charles Toomoy and Alexander Malcolm Barrow, who admitted assisting in the management of a gaming house. Donaldson was fined £350 and his assistants £ls, £lO and £5 respectively.
