No Fear For Bowling Chub Greens
Whangarei Bowling Club members need not fear for the safety of their greens. When the storm-water drainage scheme now under consideration by the borough council is put into effect, it will not harm the club’s playing area. Many members were apprehensive regarding the future of the property, but their fears have been set at rest. The creek will be allowed to flow round the boundary of the club’s greens as it does at present. Apart from cleaning out the willows in this vicinity, no alteration will take place -in the course of the stream. Central Park Deviation. In Central Park, however;, there will be a major deviation in the stream’s course. A 25-feet wide channel is proposed to be cut from the present location of the pool to meet the creek further down. Flood-gates will be placed in the channel, which will be used for swimming, in addition to the present pooL Not only will the Waiarqhia Stream receive attention under the scheme, but the Waiariki Stream will also be cleared of willows.
Proposals in this connection hgve been submitted to the Local Government Loans Board, and are being checked over by the Public Works Department.
