Barcelona Crowds Watch Air Duels
(Received 10 a.m.) LONDON, January 22
In further air raids today 27 people were killed, including six members of the crew of the African Marines, and 67 were wounded. The casualties to the fighters comprise six Nationalist aeroplanes and one Republican machine. Crowds in the streets, desdaining to take shelter, gaze up at the sky and curse or applaud the varying fortunes of the airmen.
Others pray as the raiders sweep overhead, but there is no panic.
Italian troops, estimated to number several thousands, have arrived in the vicinity of Cadiz 'and Malaga, where also Italian and German steamers have been discharging an enormous quantity of war materials, including tanks, jjor the past fortnight, says the Gibraltar correspondent of the British United Press.
