English Cricket On Up-Grade

The opinion that English cricket was definitely on the up-grade was expressed by Mr G. S. Dempster, formerly of New Zealand, and also a Dominion representative cricketer, who arrived by the Rangitanc from London on Friday.
Mr Dempster, who is accompanied by his bride, is a member of Sir Julien Calm’s team, which is to arrive at Auckland on February 9 to play a series of matches in New Zealand. The Calm Team.
The team, said Dempster, would be a very good one. J. E. Walsh was one of the soundest bowlers he had ever met. He bowled, a medium-paced ball with his left arm, of the same type as FleetwoodSmith. Dempster considered that Walsh was a better bowler than the latter. E. A. Walts, of Surrey, was a fastmedium bowler. P. Smith, of Essex, was a slow spin bowler, and he was of the opinion that he should have played for England in place of D. V. P, Wright. J. G. Lush was a fast bowler, and the side generally was very well balanced. C. R. Maxwell, the amateur keeper, and C. C. Goodway were both very good men.
