Hattersley's Big Win
i (Received i.au p.ux./ LONDON, May 25. s' The Australian, H. W. Hattersley, 'drew attention to his chances of winning the British Amateur Golf Championship by his victory in the third round over Gordon Peters, a member of the British Walker Cup team, and one of the most powerful West of Scotland players. Hattersley scored a crashing success, winning four and two after the match had been square at the turn. He then had a devastating run of 3. 3,4, 4,2, 4,4, for the seven holes, the game finishing at the 16th.
The length of each hole, starting With the 10th, is 443 yds., 313, 372, 394, 170, 443 and 566. Hattersley scored birdies at the I’Othr 11th, 14th and 16th holes. The' scratch score of the -course is 74, and this is also the par. In other games in the third round, C 'll. Yates (America) defeated the English champion, J. F. Pennink. The latter won the English championship last year and retained it recently. The American won 3 and 2. ; Hector Thompson, who won' the Irish open in 1934, and 1935, and the Scottish amateur in 1935, and the 1 British title the next year, defeating ' Jim Ferrier (Australia) in f the final, beat Grant, Govan, one up. l ; The American, Johnny Goodman, beat Briscoe, 6 and 5. The Cambridge “Blue,” Jocelyn Walker, defeated the American, Rey- ’ nold Smith, 2 up.
J, N. Reynard beat T. S. McKay (Australia), one up, but the third/ member of the Australian team who survived the second round, M. J. Ryan, held his place by defeating J. C. Wilson, a Scottish international, two and one.
