Duce Tries To Placate The Vatican

LONDON, January 10,
The Rome correspondent of “The Times” says Signor Mussolini seized a chance of publicly acknowledging the benefit to Italy of conciliation of Church and State at a moment when it is believed the Vatican was displeased at the scanty reports in the press of the Pape’s condemnation of religious persecution in Germany.
Signor Mussolini recalled the clergy’s help “in the struggle against Abyssinian hordes,” also the so-called “civilised hordes of sanctionists.”
