JAP. TROOPS’ DRUNKEN ORGY AT HANGCHOW

(“Times” Cable.) (Received 10 a.m.) LONDON, January 7. The Shanghai correspondent of “The Times” says the “Evening Post” in that city publishes letters from foreign residents of Hangchow stating that the Japanese troops, after their arrival, were given three days’ holiday. They looted wine shops, and the result was a drunken orgy, in which many civilians were killed. All the Government buildings and schools were looted. Thousands of civilians took refuge in British, American and French camps, which missionaries courageously organised. The missionaries’ representations to the Japanese commander finally resulted in the reign of terror ending.
