Shanghai Appeal For Funds For Refugees

LONDON, January 7,
The secretary of the Lord Mayor’s Fund for the Relief of the Chinese has received an urgent appeal from the British Consul-General at Shanghai, stating that Chinese refugees total i. 000,000 and that distress is increasing.
A sum of £200,000 a month is needed to provide a bare, subsistence. Chinese local communities-have contributed generously, but distress is widespread and beyond, their capacity. The Lord Mayor is cabling £15,000, which exhausts the available funds.'
