Exciting Yacht Race Finish At Whangaroa

Although the keeler yachts taking part in the handicap race from Auckland to Whangaroa during the weekend were adversely affected by calm weather at different stages of the journey, they finished in spectacular fashion yesterday morning, coming up the harbour with a following breeze and making a very pretty sight. Off Cape Brett a three-hour calm was met, enabling the rear boats to catch up with those ahead, and an exciting finish ensued. The weather throughout the race was excellent.
The race resulted as follows: Altair I, Little Jim 2, and Tainui 3. The times of arrival of the various contestants yesterday were: lorangi, I’Ohrs. ISmins. ISsecs. a.m,; Altair, 10.58.23 a.m.; Little Jim, 11. a.m.; Victory, 11.51.45 a.m.; Moana, 12.2.22 p.m.; Tainui, 1.18.26 p.m.; Roiata, 3.19.43 p.m.; Windward. 3.40.44 p.m.; Rebel, 3.49.45 p.m.; Silver Cloud, 4.21.4 p.m.; Corsair, 4.47.42 p.m. Mr Roy Laird, of Auckland, and Messrs J. King and C. Day, of Whangaroa, were the judges.
