EGYPTIAN CRISIS TAKES GRAVER TURN
(Received 10 a.m.) CAIRO, December 25. The Cairo correspondent of “The Times” says a six-hour meeting of the Wafdist Parliamentary Party was attended by 221 Senators and Deputies, 218 of whom passed a resolution declaring their complete confidence in Nahas Pasha and rejected any other Wafdist Government. They afterwards took an oath in respect of the resolution, to adhere to it for life. The dissentients included Ahmed Bey Maher. It is not known what decision the Cabinet will take regarding the King’s demands, but yesterday’s meeting indicates a stiffening of its position.
The meeting began with cries of “with Nahas to the end’’ and “an enemy of Nahas is an enemy to the nation.”
Demonstrations were held throughout Cairo last evening. Police charged and injured many.
Warning- To King.
Palace advisers have warned the King of “the Fascist danger from the Blue Shirts.
The Wafd executive has resolved
that if the Cabinet is dismissed or resigns no members of the Wafd will form a new Cabinet, and anyone accepting the charge will be deemed a traitor and expelled from the party. The only dissentient is Ahmed Bey Malicr, president of the Chamber. He is willing to accept the Premiership. The next move lies with King Farouk.
