Sir Robert Craigic, British Ambassador to Tokio, has been instructed to make it perfectly clear to the Japanese that Britain must be consulted about any arrangements in connection with, the Chinese Customs at Shanghai.

The "Daily Telegraph’s” diplomatic correspondent says discussions are proceeding between London. Paris and Washington concerning Shanghai.

it is expected that an agreement will be reached quickly to forward International representations to Japan, with a view to safeguarding the rights of foreign nations under International agreements with China.

The inhabitants, however, are suffering from an acute shortage of food. Apparently portending a severe bombing attack on Chinkiang, north-east of Nanking, the Japanese have advised British ships to regard it as a danger zone.

Railway Bombed

The British Charge d’Affaires, Mr Howe, has arrived at Hangkow, on board the gunboat Bee. with the majority of the Embassy staff from Nanking. In the hope of preventing the ti’ansport of munitions to China, airmen in 20 Japanese aeroplanes dropped more than 100 bombs on the Canlon-Kow-loon railway. These tore up hundreds of feet of track, necessitating a suspension of the service for tv/o days.

Japan To Reject NinePower Treaty

(Received 10 a.m.) TOKIO, November 27,

The “Asahi Shimbun” reports the Prime Minister, Prince Konoye, as saying that since the Nine-Power Pact is a pretext for the Powers to intervene in Far Eastern affairs, Japan will propose either its revision or its demunication at the proper opportunity. “It was made clear several years ago,” said the Prince, “that Japan would not permit European or American intervention in the Far East. We should have resorted to this step long ago,’ meaning revision or denunciation of the Treaty.
