. Too Much Rain. ;; “These last two years have been the wettest in my experience of ■ the North.’A said Mr William Smith, of iSlat&kohe, When commenting upon the many recent heavy.rains in the district. Mr Smith has all the qualities required for such a commentator, as he has had a lifetime, experience, extending over 75 years, of the vagaries of Northland’s climate. The countryside is in a sodden condition, and the ' ground is wetter already this year than it was at the end of the winter of 1936, Stock on all the low-lying areas have been shifted to the hills, while the outlook for the early spring growth is far from promising, Unless a reasonably dry spell is experienced in the near future. Although the- farming community welcomed the wet summer, the continuation of the rains until they have become almost a daily feature. of life in Northland, has left them with the impression that one c-s have too much of a good thing.
