The The Minister, of Lands, the Hon. p. ‘ Langstdne, in opening the Winter Show here last night, quoted figures showing the development of the Dominion in the past year. Ah increase in both exports and imports of £ 10,000,000 has been recorded. There were also 266 more factories/ and prodacticß was up £ 10,500,000. Also there were 7000 more people employed* and • the industries of the country had paid £1,500,000 more in wages. The wages bill of the Dominion for the first two years had been increased by £ 19,000,000. The; Public Works Department was employing 20,000, as- against 13,000 a year ago, and the Railways Department was em- ; ploying 3300 more, and the - Post and Telegraph Department 1000 more. were 17,000'more pensioners, receiving £2,000,000 more than in, the previous year. All of this increased the purchasing power of the people. This year 27,000 more motor cars were sold than in the previous year. In April this year more motor vehicles were sold than in the - whole of 1933. There were 49,000 more radios than a year ago. ..
