WHAKAPARA NEED COACHING

Territorially, Whakapara shared the honours with Takahiwai. In fact, they put up a good fight against all teams, and yet they have yet to register on the championship board. There is good material in the side and perhaps only a little proper coaching is needed to reveal, tnis talent in its proper light. One thing is cer-tain-coaching would certainly improve the team’s scoring powers, the understanding between backs and forwards, and the "functioning of the side both collectively and individually.

Takahiwai were keen to throw the ball about, . and did too, but their movements, on the whole, were not as Well executed as is the case when circumstances are favourable. They were certainly a better team than Whakapara and fully deserved a 9—2 victory. 1 - , ' Whakapara were first on the board, W. Rata being penalised for latetackling Danks, and Toki kicking a nice long-range goal from 10 yards inside half-way., Danks was hurt, but after attention, carried on. A couple of minutes later, Rata returned the compliment with a neat angle shot. A great run by Danks raised a thrill, but Dick Paki upended him with a perfect tackle. Then Toki went through in an elusive corkscrew run, but this time T. Pitman was responsible for good defensive work. Takahltvai went to the attack as the result of nice combined Work between W. Rata and Dan Mackie. Rata was almost over for a try when an opponent was penalised for tripping and he kicked the easy goal to make it 4—2 at the interval. In the second spell, P. Rata scored after a hot forward. offensive and, towards the end, W. Rata goaled from an easy position. Toki figured in one or two splendid runs, bUt lack of team-work nullified his good work. * teams were:— Takahiwai: P. Paki; D. Mackie, B. Pitman, P. Mackie; W. Rata, P. Rata; S. Pitman; Remi Paki, H.' Pirihi, WPirihi; W. Paki, T. Pitman; Slako. , Whakapara: Shelf or d; Danks, LeWis, Hedley; Toki, Dobbs; Aldred; Whittaker, Steele, Walker; Huston, Johnson; King. ' ' :
