Good Effort By Strathire And King Theo
(Special to “Northern Advocate”! AUCKLAND, This Day. At Avondale this morning 'fast work was carried out on the course proper the poles being 40ft ouTfrom the rails, but there was not a great amount of galloping accomplished. The going was good.
Erndale strode round to the three furlong post and came home in 39 3-5. He was going well within himself at the finish. Impellant did useful work, being timed to run his last half-mile in 53 4-ssec. Domo was allotted a strong task, which he completed by running the last six furlongs in 1.24 3-5.
Strathire and King Theo were sent six furlongs. They ran the first three in 38 3-ssec and covered the full journey in 1.17 1-5. it was a good effort, as they went practically from a standing start. Silver Eagle was associated with them for the first three, and was up wit hthe other pair at that stage. Golden Sheila and Lornacre were' on terms after reeling off five furlongs in 1.4. The first two took 26 1-5. The latter got an advantage of several lengths at the start, but waited on his companion. Golden Sheila was ridden by W. Howard, an apprentice in H. Calder’s stable, and he may have the mount on the filly on Saturday.
Velocipede did pace work over a couple of rounds, traversing the last seven furlongs in 1.42 3-s'. He was showing sign!; of lameness after working, but has done this on several occasions previously. Other horses allotted useful tasks included Loombination, Tray Bit. Tip Toes, Master Brierly, Francis Acre, Black Musk and Triune.
