Baton Charge Follows Prayer
(Received 10 a.m.) LONDON, March 28. Police made a baton charge on 1000 people outsidd Milltown Cemetery, Belfast, when they had risen from their knees after* reciting a rosary at the Republican commemoration of the Easter rising of 1916. The authorities had. banned a service in the cemetery, the gates of which were locked. Accounts of happenings are conflicting, but i'a is clear that the police charge met a hail of bottles and stones. One constable was taken to hospital, and many people suffered minor injuries. Disturbances occurred also in Comity Mayo, where, though it is in Irish Free State territory, the Minister of Justice banned Easter rebellion meetings. Clashes with the police occurred at Newport and Kilmeena. Outside Castlebar 20 Republicans and several policemen were injured, and 40 arrests were made.
