KING LEOPOLD ARRIVES IN LONDON
Chance to Clear Up Foreign Policy Issue (Received 3.30 p.m.) RUGBY, March 22. King Leopold, of the Belgians, has arrived in London. It is considered highly probable that, while in London, he will have private and informal talks with Mr Anthony Eden, and possibly other British Ministers. The “Times,” in a leader, says that, although the visit is private, it is doubly welcome and opportune at the present time, because it affords a chance for explanations and frank discussions of recent changes in Belgian foreign policy. On the British side, there is, much sympathy for Belgium as one of the traditional cockpits of Europe, and the British response to any act of aggression against her territory has never been in doubt. '
A plain statement of the Belgian wish to be given unilateral guarantees, however, has inevitably raised several questions of importance. ■
