LIGHTNING STRIKES STEAMER

[British Official Wireless.! (Received 2.30 p.m.) RUGBY, July 10

During an exceptionally severe storm over the Sussex coast, lightning struck the pleasure steamer Brighton Belle. The operator was knocked down and suffered burns to face and neck. None of the passengers is reported to have been injured, and, as most of them were taking shelter, they were unaware the vessel had been struck. Among south coast towns which felt the full force of the storm, Eastbourne suffered most. It is reported that, during . one hour, nearly two inches of rain fell in the streets and many shops and houses were flooded, firemen being called to pump water from the flooded premises.
