ENGINEER TO FLY TO WHANGAREI “The position now apparently is that Pohe Island has been definitely turned down locally as a temporary landing field,” said Mr. J. G. Barclay, M.P. for Marsden, .in a statement before his return to Wellington to-day, “and the suggestion is that Kaituna should receive consideration. “The aviation engineer, Mr. Gibson, reported some time ago that Kaituna would take from two to three years, and Otaika from three to four years to bring in, the only difference being that a stop bank is already erected round the Kaituna reclamation. This means that between two and three years would elapse before aerodrome facilities were provided for Whangarei.
“It is the intention, if possible, of Mr. Gibson, to fly to Whangarei. accompanied by myself, in about a fortnight’s time, to meet the local bodies and discuss, what course should bfe taken.”
Mr. Barclay expressed the hope that before Mr. Gibson’s visit, the local bodies would co-operate in arriving at a definite plan, which could then be pushed forward.
