CROQUET FINALS
The Whangarei Croquet Club’s tour-
ney was an undoubted success, both socially and financially. The finals were contested early in the week the lawns not having been appreciably affected by the flood. As a wind-up, a progressive tourney was conducted on Thursday, the winners being Mrs Cairns (Avondale A grade and Mrs Radcliffe (Whangarei.) B grade. The final of the championship singles between Mesdames Roberts and Schubert, both members of the Carlton Club, Auckland, was most ex'citing. Not quite in touch for a start, Mrs Roberts lost the first game, but in the second improved to win 2G—22. In the final she was playing at the top of her form, defying Mrs Schubert to record a point against her. Results of the finals were:
Championship Singles.—Mrs Roberts (Carlton) beat Mrs Schubert (Carlton), 19—26, 26—22, 26—0. Handicap Singles.—Mrs Stringer (Kensington) 26 beat Mrs Henderson (Avondale) 19.
