NEWSPAPERS OVERCOME HOLD-UPS

Journalistic entei’prise conquered the phenomenal disruption of all services throughout Northland. To secure the first pictures of the flood, a plane, jointly chartered by the “Northern Advocate” and the “Auckland Star,” flew from Auckland to Whangarei today, making a safe landing at Kensington Park. Special cable and Press Association news for tonight's issue of the “Advocate” was also aboard. The plane was met on arrival at 1.15 p.m.. by a representative of the “Northern Advocate,” with a consignment of sensational photographs, and depai’ted immediately on the return journey. Getting The Paper Out. Special arrangements' were made so that Northern subscribers to the “Advocate” would not be disappointed this evening. In order that they should receive their paper, in which were detailed comprehensive stories of the Northern floods, gathered under difficulties today, a special vehicle was

■procured. The “Advocate” also volunteered to transport all mails for offices from Kamo to the Far North. This vehicle, loaded with mails and “Advocates” left 'Whangarei a little later than the usual express time. Although traffic has been held up at Kawakawa since Saturday evening, the “Advocate” men, who had organ-, ised their expedition, experienced in the ways of Northern floods, were determinedly sure that their enterprise would meet with success. In the event of the road still fusing blocked towards Moerewa, special arrangements had been made for the portage of the mails and papers across The flooded section by boat or

otJter means. If this is done another of the “Advocate’s” cars will pick up the freight on the other side of the flood water.
