Messrs J. W. Hollis and W. Laird, of Auckland, were in Whangarei today. They are en route to Kaitaia.

The Rev. H. K. Archdall, formerly headmaster of King's College, is acting temporarily as chaplain at Wellington College, Berkshire, England.

Professor Denharh, of Canterbury University, and chairman of the Scientific Research Board, is paying a visit to Whanga'fei. He is the guest of his sister-in-law, Mrs Harrington-Walker. The professor leaves for England next month.

Mr A. Grayson, president of the Automobile Association (Auckland), and Mr G. W. Hutchison, secretary, who have been attending the halfyearly meeting of the North Island Motor Union in Wellington, returned to Auckland yesterday.

Sixty years of married life, a privilege given to few, was celebrated this week by well-known Gisborne residents, Mr and Mrs T. A. Crawford, who have reached their diamond wedding jubilee while both enjoying the best of health. Mr Crawford is still carrying on a chemist's business.

Wilfred Sanderson, the noted composer of ballads, died from typhoid fever at his home Nutley, Surrey, on December 11, at the age of 56. His songs, "Until," "Drake Goes West," "Friend o' Mine," "Company Sergeant Major," and many more, were best sellers in their day. He first began composing in 1903, and his first great popular success came four years later when Clara Butt sang "My Dear Soul" at the Queen's Hall. At least two of j his songs, "Friend o' Mine" andj "Until," reached the million mark.! His publishers said they sold about 500,000 of his songs a year.
