“GOOD OLD SANTA CLAUS!”

GIFTS FOR WORKERS TWO WEEKS’ FULL PAY. [Special to "Northern Advocate”! •AUCKLAND, This Day. One Tree Hill has a very kind Santa Claus who is going to be good to the workers this year. Santa intends to put two weeks’ pay in their stockings. Santa received those instructions last night from the One Tree Hill Borough Council, which decided to adopt the suggestion of the Unemployment Board in regard tp Christmas holidays of certain relief workers. The scheme provides that holidays should be of two weeks on full pay, from December 28.

The town clerk reported that, on the basis of 20 men, the total subsidised wages for the two holiday weeks would be £153, of which the Unemployment Board would find £7O, leaving a balance of £B3 to be provided by the council. In addition to the two weeks’ holiday scheme, five men would receive a special grant, equivalent to one week’s relief. The Mayor, Mr I. J. Goldstine, moved that the board’s recommendation be accepted. “I think that the council should do it,” he said. “We can do it.” Up spoke Mr M. J. Hooper: “Why not do it?” he said. They did it and for that reason Santa Claus will be much appreciated this year by the unemployed of One Tree Hill.
