This season, Bay of Islands will be the first challengers for the Dargaville Shield, which carries with it the North Auckland chicket championship. The Whangarei Cricket Association Management Committee accepted the dates submitted by the Bay, December 14 and 15. Mangonui are applying for a match towards the middle of January, and the fixture with Rodney will be played on January 28 and 29.

On December 15, a Whangarei representative side, largely drawn from the junior ranks, will play the MidNorthern Sub-Association, probably at Opuawhanga, where a concrete wicket is available. The Powell Cup was handed over to Messrs Rusk and M. Bay, representatives of the MidrNorthern Sub-As-sociation.

The first round of the Whangarei senior championship will conclude next Saturday, and following the interim for the representative fixture the next week, the Wilding-Whimp subsidiary competition will commence on December 21.
