KAIKOHE
THE BATHS DANCE
A novel dance was held by the Kaihohe Baths Construction Committee on Friday evening.
The dance was preceded by a treasure hunt. Competitors were required to gather a certain number of articles. They were then required to report to the dance before 10 p.m. Mr /Tom Guerin’s party succeeded in locating all >the treasures except the live eel. It was said that attempts were made to secure this trophy. It was worth 96 points. However, as this feat would probably .have entailed an all night sitting at the the party decided that discretion was the better part of valour. Reg Stancich was the only Spartan who braved the icy waters of the baths to secure the treasure sunk there. After the hunt, dancing was continued and the next surprise came when fish and chips were duly served 'for supper. Mr Harold Heslop was the M.C. and he kept the dance running at full speed. New Buildings. Building activities continue. There are four blocks of shops and offices either nearing the final stages of completion or being erected. Several more are to be started in the near future. Three new residences are practically completed, and six more are due. As there has been a decided shortage of houses for some time, the construction of new dwellings is welcomed. However, in spite of this shortage, many of the houses are being built by people for their own occupation. There will therefore still be a demand. There is every prospect of the building boom continuing. Kaikohe in the past two years has changed from being merely a small centre to a progressive town. At the present rate of increase in population it should not be very long before the 1000 mark is reached. It is the cherished ambition of quite a number of citizens to see this figure reached. There is even a 1000 club in existence in Kaikohe. Ready For New Season. The baths are now ready for the coming swimming season. The only thing required to enjoy a swim is some water in the baths. They have been given a coat of whitewash and a vast improvement has been made to whole scheme by placing a concrete pavement around all sides. The fence surrounding has also been given a coat of paint., It is expected that by the end of the week the baths will be filled. Cricket Club Gets Busy. The Kaikohe Cricket Club had its first outing on Sunday. Members went to Horeke, where they met the local team in a friendly match. There seemed to be quite a reluctance on the part of the players to divulge the score when they returned. However, this may be excused, as the first day usually has its ups and downs.
