An inter-college tourney between the Whangarei High School and the Takapuna Grammar School was played on the Takapuna Grammar ground on Saturday. The High School won the Rugby and hockey, but were beaten in the basketball. Results were:— Rugby.— Whangarei High School 9, Takapuna Grammar 5. Hockey.—Whangarei High School 2, Takapuna 1. Basketball—Takapuna 10, Whangarei 7. The Rugby Match. The Rugby match was to some extent spoiled by the wetness of the ground and the greasiness of the ball. The High School backs played fine football, and were not long in opening their account. From a scrum on the Takapuna line, Blake dived over the blind side for an unconverted try. —High School 3, Takapuna 0. Then followed a period of end-to-end play, in which Takapuna came near scoring. , Alison cleared to half-way and there the High School backs again opened out, Alison making the opening for Power to score unopposed. The kick again failed. — High School 6, Takapuna 0. For the next quarter of an hour Takapuna had Whangarei bottled, but stout defence kept them' out. Green was seen in some nice moves, but Takapuna did not let him get far and for the remainder of the spell held the advantage. There was no further score at the spell. Takapuna Score.

Takapuna continued to press when they resumed, but again the High School backs sailed away; Alison centring nicely, Minogue was bustled and Foote pounced on the ball in the following scramble and scored Whangarei’s third try. The kick failed. — Whangarei 9, Takapuna 0. The Takapuna forwards again took command. From the ruck Wadham snapped up the ball and side-stepped his way through the School side. He passed in-field to Farquharson, who went over. Brinsden converted. — Whangarei 9, Takapuna 5. From then until the end the game was a battle of forwards, with Takapuna having a slight advantage. Takapuna lost two excellent chances through faulty handling, and the game ended: — Whangarei High School .. 9 Takapuna Grammar ....... 5 Mr. R. Reid was referee.
