BUNTING INADEQUATE
A POOR DISPLAY. LORD GALWAY’S VISIT. [Special to '"Northern Advocate .”l GISBORNE, This Day. The display of bunting found in the* streets in honour of the visit to Gisborne by the Governor-General, Lord Galway, was described at a meeting of the Borough Council as “shocking.” Mr H. H. de Costa moved that the Power Board be congratulated on the display of lighting for the occasion. “In regard to the display of bunting,” Mr de Costa said, “I want to say it was shocking.” The Mayor, Mr D. W. Coleman, M.P.: “I agree with you.” Mr de Costa: “If it had all been put up as we had it for the Duke of Gloucester it would have been all right. The Mayor said that when he saw how skimpy the display looked it was too late to effect any improvement. The council carried the motion of congratulation to the Power Board on its lighting arrangements-. •Mr N. H. Bull remarked that at the last meeting it was agreed that the cost of erecting bunting on the same scale as for the Duke of Gloucester’s visit would be prohibitive. He considered that, as it was- the first visit of His Excellency, the council might have done more.
“I was wild when I saw it there when it was too late to rectify it,” said the Mayor.
