MANGAPA! TENNIS MATCH. On Saturday last, members of Mauugakaramea Tenuis Club played a return match against Mangapai on the local courts. At Maungakaramea on tlie previous Saturday Mangapai were defeated, and on* this occasion the result was the same, though the margin was smaller —13 sets to 12. A very pleasant and sociable day was spent, and many interesting sets V-ere witnessed. Following is the summary of the sets, Maungakaramea names mentioned first:— Ladies’ Singles.—Miss F. Berrich lost to Miss D. Carter, 5—6; Miss L. Bint lost to Mrs Finlayson, 4 —6; Mrs C. Child beat Mrs P. Cartel’, 6—2; Mrs A. McLennan beat Miss P. Carter, 6 —2. Men’s Singles.—T. O’Carroll lost to R. Carter, I—6;1 —6; J, Litt lost to F. Carter, 4—6; E. O’Carroll lost to A, Byles, I—6;1 —6; L. Child lost to S. Mullins, 3 —6; C. Bint lost to P. Carter, s—(i; R. Thomson lost to S. Ormandy, 4 —6; H. Harvey beat C. Cotton, 6 —3; N. Challenger beat M. Carter, 6 —3. Ladies.’ Doubles. —Misses Berrich anq Bint lost to Mrs Finlayson and Miss D. Combined Doubles. —Miss Berrich and T. O’Carroll lost to Miss D. Carter and E, Carter, 4 —6 ; Miss Bint and J. Litt beat Mrs Finlayson and C. Carter, 6 —4; Mrs Child and L. Child beat Miss P. Carter and S. Mullins, 6—4; Mrs F. O’Shea and C. Bint beat Mrs Harrison and P. Carter, 6—3; Miss Thomson and Thomson beat Mr and Mrs Ormandy, 6 —5. Mr E. O’Carroll, at the conclusion of the games, thanked the Mangapai club for the enjoyable day, mentioning the ladies, in particular, for providing lunch and afternoon tea. TOWAI CARD EVENING. There was a’poor attendance at' the card evening on Saturday night, only three tables being occupied. Mrs L. Williams and Mr A. H. Dawson won the first prizes and Mrs Dawson and Mr H. Apatara took the consolation prizes. SCHOOL REOPENS. The school has reopened, to the delight of some children and the disappointment of others. The teachers are finding it a difficult problem to teach the children, Avhile building operations are in force. It will be easily another fortnight jbefore the school will be finished. RAIN A GODSEND. Last week’s rain has proved a* Godsend to tanks and crops, as the water supply was looking really serious, and the pastures were .scarce and dried <up. PERSONAL. Mr W. Murray is away spending a holiday at the Heads. Mr E. S. E-alls and family have returned from their holiday in Kerikeri. Mr and Mrs Clinton and their daughter have left on their return trip to Palmerston North. Master J. Brown has arrived back from a holiday in Auckland.
