SHEEP IN DEMAND

The Farmers’ Co-operative Auctioneering Co., Ltd., reports that at the Frankton stock sale yesterday there was a good yarding of both ewe and wether mutton, and prices, especially for prime ewes, showed an increase on last sale. Wethers were also keenly sought, but the demand slackened toward, the end of the sale. Prices for a good yarding of fat lambs remained unchanged. Store lambs, of which there was a small yarding, sold at last sale rates, while a good yarding of breeding owes, comprising mostly full-mouthed, met with a fair demand. Ox beef was yarded in average numbers, and met with an improved demand, especially for medium and lightweight sorts. Cow and heifer beef was again yarded in heavy numbers, and values for good quality showed a. decided increase, while second-grade also improved. Boner cows and bulls maintained schedule rates, A heavy yarding of pigs came forward, values for baeoners again being much firmer. There was a good yarding of stores, but values showed an easing tendency. The following prices were realised: — Sheep. —Prime fat wethers made up to 27/9; heavy fat wethers, 23/ to 25/; unfinished, 20/3 to 21/6; prime maiden ewes, 20/ to 22/; heavy tat ewes, 16/2 to 17/10; prime fat lambs, 20/3 to 21/6; medium, 16/ to 18/3; good store lambs, 14/ to 16/6; other store lambs, 11/2 to 12/; huxod aged ewes, 16/1 to 18/4; sound-mouthed owes, 12/1 to 13/5. Cattle. —Yealers, 19/ to 25/; modium- ! weight steers, £6 .11/ to £6 14'/; light, £5 9/ to £5 19/; prime fat cows, £5 to ;£5 5/; medium fat cows and heifers, £4 to £4 10/; lighter, £2 17/6 to £3 10/; heavy boners, to 35/; bulls, to £4. Pigs: Heavy baeoners, 58/ to 62/; medium, 53/ to 57/; heavy porkers, 38/ to 43/; medium, 33/ to 37/; choppers, 21/ to 38/.
