Today is the 94th anniversary of .the Signing of the Treaty of Waitangi, and the concluding ceremonies at the national estate this afternoon are being held in fine, drizzling rain. The attendance is not as large as ; that of yesterday, but it is substantial, the official, parking areas being again crowded with cars. His Excellency the Governor-Gen-eral, Lord Bledisloe, broke the Union Jack from the new flagstaff in front of the Busby residence and officially inspected the house. • Threshold Dedicated. Then followed the Native ceremony, equivalent to the laying of the foundation, stone' of a building. According to Native custom, a foundation eanfcot be laid until the ridge-pole is erected, but this tradition was suspended ,f or the occasion, and the threshold of the carved whare runanga, which is to stand alongside - the Treaty House, was this afternoon duly dedicated with full Maori ceremonial. . Afterwards, His Excellency deliver- ' ed a most impressive speech. Exodus Begins Tonight. The first exodus of visiting tribes will take place at 8 o’clock tonight, and the balance will start to move homewards as from tomorrow and as quickly as train services will permit. The Parliamentary train leaves Opua for Auckland tonight, but some of-.the Ministers who have other engagements in the North will make the trip back by road.
