LORD BLEDISLOE’S ITINERARY. . i RAAVENE ON FEBRUARY 13. | , I The official secretary to the Gover-nor-General lias written to the Hokianga County Council to the effect that Their Excellencies will visit Rawene on February 13th, travelling by Ihe Government steamer Alatai. The secretary’s communication is as follows: “It would give Their Excellencies much pleasure if an opportunity could be given for them to meet at Rawene at, say, 11 a.m. on the date mentioned, as many of the residents of the district, including the neighbouring farmers and the seliool children, as may care to assemble; and I am desired to ask whether yon could conveniently arrange for such a gathering, and if so, what your proposals are. Their Excellencies wish me to mention especially that they are anxious that their visit should not put the rate- j payers to any expense, either in the t form of nn illuminated address or t otherwise. Their purpose is to make the acquaintance of you and your , councillors and as many, of the local ; residents as may find it convenient' to assemble. ] “In the afternoon, should the Avea- j ther be fine, the Governor-General I and Lady Bledisloe, who will be ac-1 eompanied by Mr and Mrs Bathurst, | Lieutenant Elworthy, R.N., A.D.C., j and Captain Tweedic, A.D.C., avi 11 probably pay a visit- to the Waipona Forest. I assume that there will be no difficulty in their securing on hire a car (probably two) at Rawene for this purpose.” The Programme. The following programme has been arranged and forwarded to Their Ex- i (Celleneies by the manager, Mr R. At 12.15, lunch at Rawene Hotel; 1.15, leave for Waipoua Forest; 1.20, call at Hokianga Public Hospital; 1.50, Leave for Walpoua Forest; 2.50, arrive Waima-j maku, meet settlers and children; 3.45, j leave Waimamaku; 4 p.m., arrive at forest; 5 p.m., leave forest for Opononi; 6.30, arrive at Rawene. CARD EVENING. A card evening was held on Thursday evening last in the Library room of the Town Hall, to raise funds for the Public School at Kohnkohn. There was a good attendance of players, ladies and gentlemen. The winners for the evening wore Mrs Gabolinscy j and Mrs Dolbel. |
