BELATED PROPOSAL
.SUGGESTED HOSPITAL SITE, j j The remarks of Mr G. Wilkinson when, as a member of a deputation to the Mannganni County Council, he advocated the centralisation of hospital administration and treatment, have brought a warm tribute from Messrs Sulenta Bros. (Waipapakauri), who have outlined proposals which, though excluded from serious discussion by! the fact that the question has already j been irrevocably determined, might j afford a certain amount of entertain-1 ment. The long and short of it is fl at Messrs Sulenta Bros, regard the Tvaipapakauri Hills as offering the ideal situation for a hospital, and they are prepared to make a gift of two acres on any one of four hills, each of "hum commands an excellent view. The suggestion by Messrs Sulenta Bros, that a referendum be taken on the question of removing the hospital and, if it is to bo removed, the place at which it is to be rc-ereeted, ig already beyond the power- of the people to deal with. Part of the hospital at Mangonui has already been taken d6wu and has been transported to Kaitala. There is not much use setting out the desirable features of Messrs Sulenta Bros.’ property. Had their proposition been made sufficiently early it would probably not have received serious consideration. As fai as the population is concerned, Waipapakauri is not central and, in snj case, what Mr "Wilkinson proposed was a large hospital serving several counties, and ho mentioned Whangarei as sufficiently convenient to the whole of the Par North.
