WHANGAROA COUNTY
(From Our Own Correspondent.) Anzae Service. Mr H. M. Rushworth, M.P., was present in the district on the morning of Anzae Day. In conjunction with with the Rev. Hickman, lie addressed a meeting at the Totara North primary school at 9 o’clock. At 10.15 he addressed a number of members of the local Returned Soldiers’ Association in the Memorial Library at Kaeo. Anzae service was held in Pyo’s Hall at 11 o’clock, when there were present about 150 people, including returned soldiers, Territorials, and the local Scout and Guide troops. The county chairman, Mr W. H. Lane, presided over the meeting, the speakers being Mr Rushworth and the Rev. Hickman, who also read the lesson. Mr W. H. Lane read out the names of the men of this county who made the supreme sacrifice —“ Their name liveth for evermore.”

The annual meeting 0 f the Kaeo branch of the above was held in the library rooms, at 8,15 last Saturday evening, when there was a fair attendance of members. Mr H. Leslie presided over the meeting. The president’s report and the balanceshet were adopted: nem con, the latter showing a small,’credit. Officers for the year were elected as follows: —President, Mr H. Leslie; vice-presidents, Messrs J. L. Johanson and C. P. Rdke; secretary, Mr P. N. Silk. The committee consists of the above, with the addition of Messrs E. R. Shepherd, L. Hayes, F. Maddox, F. Hills and P. Lane.
Those who attended the combined conference at Dargaville on the 19th and 20th April gave an account of what had taken place there. It was decided that at the next meeting, there would be a discussion of the pamphlet: “This Money Business.’ ’ Basketball. A meeting was held at Kaeo on Wednesday, April 26, for the purpose of forming a ladies’ basketball team. Eighteen members were enrolled, the following officers being elected. —President, Miss l-\ Matthews; secretary, Miss M. Hayes. The committee is comprised of the president, the secretary .and Miss 3. Maddox.
Practice matches t will be held twice .weekly, and matches are to be played against the Matauri and Totara North teams.
