TARANAKI PORTS
FI VE CONTROLLING BOARDS. A M ALG AM ATI ON PROPOSAL. (Per Press Association.—Copyright.) NEW PLYMOUTH, This Day. The appointment of a commission to investigate the advisability of amalgamating the live harbour boards of Taranaki—-New Plymouth, Patea, Waitara, Mbkau and Opunake —is being sought by the Taranaki County Council. The chief aims are the consolidation of .all loans and a uniform basis of rating over the whole province. The New Plymouth harbour rate recently imposed bears particularly on a sm.RI ‘ ‘ inner area. ’ ’
The council considers this a good opportunity for the Government to give effect to its promise to investigate local body control with a view to amalgamations.
