ANGLICAN MAORI MISSION

BENEFIT DANCE AT WHAKAPAEA

A very jolly dance was held in the Hui House at Whakapara on Friday last, in aid of the Anglican Maori Mission funds. The function was given by the Hui House Committee. Entrancing music was provided by Miss N. Nathan, assisted by Miss H. Pitman, 'while enjoyable extras were rendered by Mr .1. Edwards (piano), Air K. Davis (violin) and Messrs J. Davis ’ and J. Edwards (ukuleles). Dancing was kept up until the small hours. The Eev. John Tepaa controlled the dancing admirably, and persistent encores were the order of the evening.

The dancing competitions for the evening were very keenly contested. The. statue one-step was the lirst, and, as the dancers found guilty of moving were eliminated, only three couples remained and on these all eyes were iixed, but the musician, by a clever device, struck a couple of notes and caught these three unawares, much to the merriment of all.

The spot waltz winners were Miss H Pitman and Mr J. Davis.

A waltzing competition for the prize donated by Mr Ness Told was awarded to Miss C. Strongman and Mr J. Ed- ( wards. A cake, beautifully iced, was donated by Mrs Birch, and the lucky number drawn was that of Mr Robert White. A very nice supper was provided and greatly enjoyed by all.
